Magnum Mauser actions
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:00:58 AM »
This keeps me confused.
Standard large ring mausers were to short for some magnums according to a recent article I read so Muaser developed a longer action for Rigby and other English gunmakers. Question is does the Zasatva large ring action used for magnums like Rem 7 Mag use a bigger magnum length action or a factory worked standrad length action?
Trying to buy a stock off one and don't want waste money if its going to be too big around the magazine box?

At numrich which is www.e-gunparts.com  they did offer the different length magazine wells for the longer bullet lengths.  I'll post a sight with some info i need to look for it. There are different lengths on the bolts too.  Numrich has calibers up to 458 win (barrels) for the large ring receivers.  You may need to do some fitting in the mag well for the larger mag or special order a new stock.

The standard mauser is what we now call a long action.
The short belted mags like 264 Win Mag, 257 Weatherby, 7mm Remington, 300 Win mag, and 338 Win mag were all made to fit in the standard or long action like the large ring miliatry mausers.  Or the same Over all length as 30-06
The magnum action was used for sporting rounds like 375 H&H or 416 Rigby.
Later the 300 H&H and the blown out version of it 300 Weatherby used the same action and then the other factory wild cats like 8mm Remington and 7mm STW.

mcwooduck, that was what I was interested in. He is selling a stock off a 7 mag so it will fit my standard actions without a major re-work. Thanks, guys
