Model 158 question
« on: March 03, 2012, 11:47:27 AM »
I was looking at a model 158 12 ga 30" barrel full choke  in good shape  today  rolled it over to look at the serial number to get an idea how old it was ........ No serial number  no where  I know they weren't required before 1968  , but I thought H&R was doing serial numbers long before that .
Any thoughts??

I hunted with an H&R Topper for years until the forearm lug attachment failed.  After another year of taping it together and getting sticky when I used it I sold it.  If I knew them what I know now I would have fixed the thing.  It was the "just pull it off" without the screw.  I always said it was serial number "1" since there was not a single number on it anywhere but model 158 Topper.  Still have a J. C. Higgins (read Stevens) .410 without a serial number on it.
