22 Hornet on a SB-1 frame
« on: March 04, 2012, 04:09:15 PM »
Finally got the the receiver my friend gave me.
It is marked H&R, model 088, serial number prefix BA.
Has the small firing pin and is color case hardened I guess you would call it.
Can this be used safely with a 22 Hornet or maybe a 204? Or is it just another shotgun frame.
Thanks, TC

Thanks Jason,
I thought so with the 204 being too high in pressure.
If I can't find a 22 Hornet barrel, I'll probably just buy a whole new gun in 204 or 223.
All I have is the frame and a scope to put on it, so I would have to buy a stock, forearm and barrel.

How does that .223 barrel fit on that SB-1 frame?

If not so good, then your question is moot.  But if it fits "good," I'd have no problem putting a .223 barrel on that SB-1 frame!  Would be surprising (to me) if the .223 could stretch that frame considering the recoil a magnum 12gagg gives!  If the .223 eventually stretch the SB-1 frame, wouldn't it be gradual enough to see it?  feel it?

A magnum 12 gauge is no where near the pressure of a 223 it has been talked about alot on here,i wouldnt want to be the one to pull the trigger on a Sb1 frame with a 223 barrel.

With a 223 on an SB1 there is a good chance you will be wearing it...maybe permanently...don't do it.  The 12 guage has no where near the pressure of a 223, recoil is not an indicator of chamber pressure.  If it were, the 22mag. would knock you on your butt!
