sub gauge tubes
« on: September 10, 2011, 06:48:17 AM »
I know they make sub tubes for shooting small bore centerfire  / rimfire out of a DB or SB shotgun. Anybody here have experience with them ?  If they shoot any good it might be handy in a survival situation.

Yes, I have a 12ga to .410 and a 12 ga to .22 LR. Both work well at short range and I have 3 guns in 1, 12 ga, .410 and .22.

What do you consider short range?  Are your sub-gauge tubes from McAce Sports?  Or another company?  8)

Shotgunadapters.com, 3" long and made out of steel, $18.95 each (no tax, no shipping). Short range = 25 yards. IMO they give you versitility with your smoothbore.

If you do some searching you will find that there are quit a few of them out there. You can find them listed by a few different names such as shotgun adapters, chamber mates, barrel reducers, and so on. You can find them in many different calibers. They range from  about 4" long to full barrel length. Some places will custom make them to order. I own a few of the 4" converters in 12ga/20ga, 20ga/.410, and .410/.22. They all work really well in my opinion. I get point of aim from the .410/.22 adapter out to around 25yrds easy. I have aslo found that they all fit together nicely to allow me to use any combination of the bunch. Very convenient to have on hand in a survival situation.
