Time to decide whether we should waste any more American (or Afghan) lives in Afghanistan. This needs to get hashed out on its merits, not on protecting turf or ideological positions.

When it comes to deciding what matters are worth plunging our nation into war and which are not, our senior leaders owe it to the nation and to the uniformed members to be candid — graphically, if necessary — in telling them what’s at stake and how expensive potential success is likely to be. U.S. citizens and their elected representatives can decide if the risk to blood and treasure is worth it.
Likewise when having to decide whether to continue a war, alter its aims or to close off a campaign that cannot be won at an acceptable price, our senior leaders have an obligation to tell Congress and American people the unvarnished truth and let the people decide what course of action to choose. That is the very essence of civilian control of the military. The American people deserve better than what they’ve gotten from their senior uniformed leaders over the last number of years. Simply telling the truth would be a good start.

Russia tried and failed miserably.  I believe Napolean had quite a defeat there too.  Don't quote me on that one though.  It's time for our war fighters to come home.  I have a job for them- the southern border..............

I was unaware of any forays into Afghanistan by Napoleon,  however if we look through history the last occupier that came from outside the Islamic region was Gengis Khan who was able to control the area for 150 years.   Before that I believe it was Alexander the Great but even his army took 3 years to subdue the tribes in the region.   this part of the world has been a bad outcome for every modern foray into it.   I guess the only thing that can be said is how long do we want to keep losing lives?

We had to go there and clean al Qaeda out and their benefactors the talaban, or at least set them back.  George Bush accomplished that and then moved on to ridding the world of Saddam Hussein and his evil sons.  Then along comes this moron who shared the name (Hussein) and made Afghanistan his main target.  I clearly remember it was the Dumycrats who roundly endorsed the idea that we should go all in for Afghanistan.  Oh well, at least bin Laden was dispatched.
