Mortar At Iowa Capital

 I seen here on the TV a hugh mortar on the front steps of the Iowa State Court House, Des -moines Any know anything about it or a Pic. Thanks- Joe

     This is an 1861 13" Seacoast Mortar that Mike and I visited in 2004 before digital cameras (for us).  It is unique in that it is S/N 1 of that type and was cast at Fort Pitt Foundry in 1861.  It weighs 17,314 pounds.  We borrowed a photo from our member Dictator found in a 2006 thread by GGaskill.

Mike and Tracy

Located at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines.  We were nearby in Montezuma, Iowa making a delivery of a 100 Pdr. Parrott Seacoast Rifle at the time.
