Differences in T/C models
« on: February 20, 2012, 04:47:09 AM »
Hi,
I am in the market for a T/C in Contender or G2...or which ever can be switched from rimfire to centerfire.  I have seen some Contenders with the switch on the hammer, then I have seen some without it.  Does G2 have this?  I have not seen many and of those I didn't see anything on the hammer.  I assume I can't just order a T/C with one, so I have been on various sites like Gunbroker.  It's hard to see sometimes from the pics and I have to write the owner and so far nothing.  The couple that did have it also were high priced because of the various barrels it came with.  Any help much appreciated!!

Thanks,
Chuck

They can all be switched, just some not so easy as others.  The G2 and the latest Easy Open frames had the selector lever on the top of the hammer and seem to be the most preferred.  They have others that have a little slide-bolt type system and some that have a circular face that can be rotated, but all just change the face of the hammer to hit either the center firing pin for centerfire or the upper firing pin for rimfire.  There may be others as I am by no means an expert, but I hope that helps.

Give Ed a call @ Ed's Contenders. He is a sponsor on this site and will probably have what you are looking for. To boot he is a fine fellow to do business with.

I beleive the Contender pistiol was made in 3 'versions" I would like to know what "improvements" where made for each "version"  Also how can you tell the differant versions or models. Thanks  Rick

The G2 serial number starts with G and has the "step" at the top of the frame just like the Encore just in a smaller version. If the serial number is between 1001 and 500,000 then it is the original Contender. If over serial number 195,000 then it is the easy open version. If it is a satin silver color and the serial number starts with and "A" then it is the Armor Alloy version. If the Armor Alloy version has not been altered then the blue/stainless barrels will not work on this Armor Alloy frame since the barrel pin used is smaller in the Armor Alloy version. In all versions you can shoot rimfire and centerfire rounds with the Contender.

I just got my first Contender slightly used not a month ago, a G2, and it has a MIM hammer and I think the trigger is too. I wonder when they started that?
