Muddly it has been a good hobby. Been able to spend just a few hundred dollars for materials and keep myself cheerfully busy for months....Now I want to get stuff together and start cowboy action shooting..I bought the stuff to start reloading the quantities of ammo needed for the sport and am working on building a Winchester 1873 takedown /switchbarrel rifle with barrels for .45 Colt and .44-40 ....Take me about 6 months to build that one gun..
.
The Marlin model 60....The backstory is that I gave my old friend 110% of new retail price for his old Marlin 60 he wanted to sell..I overpaid to give him his price, he needed the money ..But the old gun with its anodized aluminum receiver and squirrel pressed into the birch stock just was constantly a challenge to me- I look at it and think I could build one that is a bit nicer.. And eventually I did...It has an original Marlin  microgroove barrel ...Long and a bit heavy trigger pull but really does print a good target group...They are real good rifles off the shelf but concessions have been made in order to sell cheap...
.
I have built a few pretty nice guns but none are worth squabbling over yet- nothing perfect. I am pretty good with the machines but gunsmithing is whole 'nuther challenge..I still have a whole  lot to learn. But I do appreciate the compliments. :)

Now I love my model 60, but that one takes the cake for looks.  Gonna have to do some stock sanding at least soon I think.  hehe  I'd love to make mine a steel receiver housing also.  Giving me some thoughts.  ;)

Gunnut69  I read most of the past threads in this gunsmithing section..You sir are way the hello ahead of me in this learning curve.. I finish a couple more of these projects I am gonna bestow upon myself the honorary title of Gunsmith..Will make a sign and hang it in my shop..But between you and me we know that there is more to gunsmithing than the metalsworking bit that I have been practicing..

I finished my rebuild of my 79 year old Winchester model 65... This the one that I welded up 12 scope mount holes that past 'gunsmiths' had drilled and tapped in the barrel..And I relined and chambered in .218 BEE...And I welded up side of the receiver where somehow the spring gate had been pried open and tore back the receiver...I also carved front end wood and made the steel foreend cap and made up the tube magazine.......Color casehardened the receiver and rust BROWNED the barrel, breech bolt, trigger and hammer.......Ohhh, and trickiest thing I did was made the spring gate..Used piece of leaf spring front boat trailer- machined and then heat treated.Buttstock had been scorched black from a fire but amazing she cleaned up nice...

Thankyou..I traded for the old gun in unusable condition more than 30 years ago..It has sat around here so long I amaze myself that I finally got around to working on it..
