Contender stocks

I've always thought that the availability of good looking synthetic stocks for the contender have been very slim . We only have the factory offering , other than a few thumbholes . The encore options are what I'm talking about , they have the regular realtree , the pro hunter and the pro hunter camo flex tech , really nice looking stocks.I'm thinking of another option and it might have been a topic some time ago , take the better looking t/c syn stock with the cut out back near the recoil pad , not the old design that went straight back and put your own realtree camo paint job on it . Anybody have any pics of a realtree paint job or any suggestions on doing one .

Has anyone looked into seeing what it would take to fit a encore stock to a g2 contender frame , probably not possible , I would think the encore frame is wider not sure . Dave thanks for taking the time to post a pic ,I didn't realize they were that much wider , I haven't handled for many encores . Is that case hardening on the encore frame I'm seeing ?

Yeah. It's a custom shop case hardened frame. It's beautiful. Trying to decide what kind of stocks to put on it. Thinking about buying a custom green mountain lam set from Dr. Tony. I think that color would look good on the frame.

I got a beautiful piece of walnut from Bullberry that turned out real nice , but alot of work , I had to do all the ruff and finish sanding and the finish . Also I purchased a real nice green laminate from gunstocks Inc. but again I did all the work , thats why I wish there were some nice synthetic stocks available for the contender like there is for the encore , I'm not up to another stock job.Who is Dr. tony ?

There used to be a "grip Chip" if I am remembering what it was called correctly that would make up the difference in the width between the G2 (not the original Contender) to allow use of the encore stocks. I don't know if they are still available or not. They were basically a piece of plastic to shim up the slack.

Grip chip !!! That would be great ,I never heard of it , you would think Thompson would have made them available to sell more stocks ! Can anyone post a pic of one , I can't seem to find any info on them , were they  two piece or one piece ? Thanks for posting TRM

Thanks for the links TRM , I can't believe I never heard of this thing !! Now if we could only get some , what could I do with the forearm , doesn't sound like the matching encore forearm will fit the contender 23''bull barrel ?

     Check out Bell And Carlson's SKU#6698.  It has become my favorite Contender Carbine stock and I'm an old "must be made out of walnut" guy.  It is an ambidextrious thumb-hole'r made out of their carbalite material.  It has a solid feel(like wood) but not quite as heavy, but none of the hollow feel that most synthetics.  I opened up the forend to handle bull barrels with a dowel and sand paper and it worked just as if made of wood.  Can't remember the cost but it was well worth what ever it was.  I LOVE it!!!

I was considering  the bell and carlson but I didn't want a thumhole for a deer rifle , I have a beautiful  laminate thumbhole for my 204 and love it for varmint hunting but don't like the idea of having to take your thumb out of the thumbhole to pull the hammer back and then put your thumb back in the thumbhole .It probably becomes second nature after awhile but seemed awkward to me .

      contender hunter: The Bell and Carlson is relieved around the thumb area much more than most thumb-hole stocks(has to be to be ambidextrious) and in fact one hardly realizes that it is a thumb-hole'r when in use.
