Barrel top profile
« on: March 11, 2012, 06:09:29 AM »
Dimensionally, are all of the barrel top profiles the same for SB2 frames?  Are the 3 mount screws in the same location?  Specifically, is the barrel top at the frame end the same for the 45-70 and the 45LC?
Thanks,
Don

All H&R barrels, both shotgun and rifle (except the 10ga based barrels) are 1.1" in diameter at the chamber swell, 10ga based barrels are 1.2" in diameter, all modern rifle barrels are drill and tapped for the same scope rail.

This is true for barrels in question and true for ALL SB2 barrels. (Specfically in this case the 45/70 and 45 colt)

Just for clarity in future searches;

NOT all H&R barrels are the same dia or use the same scope base. As Tim pointed out the 10 ga and 12GA USH are bigger. But also, the older "profiled" barrels are SMALLER AND used a different base. Although the Number of holes and spacing has remained the same. The barrels radius (diameter at mount) is smaller. The base for them is 62A & discontinued IIRC.
