I have hunted hogs before they can be tough I think a 357 might be a little light.But if you are a good shot & place your bullet right you might do it .Id would go with Cor-bon loads & have a back up. I took mine with a 375 Win shoting a hot handload & I was carring my 41 mag with cor-bon cast just in case good luck its a lot of fun

Yeah,see if they carry the Cor-bon brand. Cor-bon is a manufacter that produces hotter than "normal" factory rounds. they also use hard cast lead bullets in some of their loads..which I believe would be the ticket. Also Federal has a hard cast .357 load I believe that should work..check out cor-bon's site...www.cor-bon.com

The guys who hunt hog with dogs here in east TN mostly carry .357 mags, 4 inch. Their shots are close anyway. I would not carry one as my primary arm unless hunting behind good dogs.

The .357 mag will work on hogs if you don't ask too much of it. Keep shots very close (25 yards or so) and use tough 158grain bullets.

I would (and do) opt for heavier cartridges. I currently use a .454 Casull and .480 Ruger. However, even though I own a .357 Mag., I feel that it is too light for general hog hunting. I consider the .44 Mag. to be a good "minimum," and the .480 Ruger to be a good compromise between the hard kicking .454 Casull and the lighter .44 mag.

I have never used a 45 Colt on anything, so I really can't say from personal experience. But I would think that it would be a better choice over the .357 Mag given that the .45 has a heavier (although slower) bullet.

We have been using semi wadcutters out of a 357 on hogs for about 5 years now shooting 38 special swc ammo. They will drop them one shot but like anything else its where you hit them that matters. Even the 454 doesn't work if you hit them wrong. We have shot them with 30 cal carbine, 38spl, 357, 41 mag, 44mag, 45acp, 45lc and 454 out of handguns and the 38spl works as good as any except for maybe a slight edge to the 30 cal with soft points. Day in day out carry for hogs with us is the 357 with 38 special swc ammo.
