CAN ANYONE HELP?
« on: June 05, 2013, 02:37:32 PM »
I am an old, newly "bitten" black powder cannon enthusiast. My grandson found the pictures of this golf ball bore cannon online. Does anyone recognize the cannon, builder, or design? Is it possible to have CAD or get a set of machinists plans made with just the photos and the known  (golf ball size) bore dimension? Forgive my ignorance, and thank you for any direction or assistance anyone can provide.

A lot of machining went into that model...  however it does not look to me like the barrel has as much wall thickness at the chamber as the bore diameter...  which is a modern safety guideline.

IF you going to shoot it, I'd look for a better design. It not proportined correctly for such a large bore, will probably flip over backwards. \
And like flagman said the walls are far too thin, unless it has a powder chamber of much smaller diameter ???

Then there are steel Fox Balls that you might want to shoot ,I don't think that gun would handle them. I'd hang around awhile and learn about this before you spent much money on it.
That gun is probably ....much money,or at least time .
Good luck

ETA you could build the gun golf ball size and use a smaller size bore? But then weight will go way up . Or there are lots of "Garrison type" steel carrage designs that you could make much more acurate . I didn't mean to sound down on your idea ,I just think there are better guns out there.
