Did I pay to much ?

Went to a Pawn Shop , found ,17 m2 (new)  2004 model by the # (NU) , Paid $179 & tax so I put it on layway . Did I pay to much ? He had a use for $10 less , I got the new one

When I was looking at them a couple years ago that was the going price, sounds like you did alright.
My main peave was the triggers weren't very good, gritty. I did find one that was pretty sweet on the trigger but didn't buy it, my bad.

That's about what they sold for when H&R discontinued them. Triggers are easy to work on, complete instructions in the FAQs, and H&R will always do a trigger job for free or $20 at most, plus shipping.

goldhound56 - I personally think you got a good deal, there are a bunch of guys on here that have been looking all over for a 17Mach2, and you end up getting one at the regular price.  Some guys are just lucky.  8)

If you worry about what you paid, you loose the joy of your new gun. If you can afford it, buy it and enjoy your new gun. If you passed it up it might have been a long time if ever you came across another one.
