bear calling

  i'm thinking of trying to call black bears in with a e- game caller.  what calls would work best.  would these calls sounds work to call mt lion also.  lastly estead of using my stewart call that weighs a ton what would be a good  light e-caller.

Ive called bears using a fawn in distress call, rabbit distress calls and when bugling / cow talking for elk. 

Bears are big predators and will likely respond to anything that sounds like a good meal.  Consider the time of year and what prey species are in the area. 

Can't say much about the electronic calls, I was using mouth-blown calls in every instance.

Westren Rivers, or Foxpro both make lightweight e callers. Don't know much about the WR except that it looks to be modeled after the FoxPro, which is what I have. Good caller! Plenty of volume, and a huuge selection of sounds, including Bear cub distress. If you've got the nerve to try that one, if not, they have every calf or fawn distress call you'll need. Bears like a continious call, to keep their attention, other wise that patch o blackberrys looks good.  Trouble with that continous call, is that when they do come, its a jaw poping , slobbering, hungry bear. Personally, althought I've got the bear cub distress sound, I don't think I want to see Mom in that sort of mood. But around the 1st of Aug, I'll be playing fawn distress to see if I get a shot at this big fella. The lower ribbon on that pole is 36" from the ground, top ribbon is 42. Trail cam was on an old apple tree, thats surrounded by blackberrys, and in July when these were taken its all tunnels throughout the berrys. In the direction he's headed in the 2nd pic, another 30 yds will bring him further out in that meadow, where I can get a shot.

Woodswise makes bear talking calls, for calling Black Bears.  I've used them, but have only had Grizzlies come in.  There is a warning on the package saying "Do not use in Grizzly country".  Believe it.  I'm intentionally calling in Grizzlies, and believe me they are coming in to kill something, so be ready.  A Grizzly will not tolerate a Black Bear in it's territory.  The problem with Baby Bear calls is that you will get mother bears with cubs coming in. 

But if you are in an area where their is no Grizzly, I'm thinking it would work well on Black Bears.

I have a distress call tape which warns that two hunters should be back to back when its used.  It has a dying rabbit call, a dying fawn call and more.  The say the predators will come in very quickly for an easy meal.  I haven't tried it yet.

4x5 I hope you get him. You wouldn't believe the experiences I have had with hyde co.NC black bears. I have had them come in to a dying rabbit call, very alert.
