need some help! stuck barrel
« on: April 13, 2012, 11:46:55 AM »
I have a Contender frame that will not release the barrel!  any thoughts?  quick fixes?  tried with pin in and pin out!

I only stuck one once (solid locking bolt barrel on an easy open frame) and a sharp rap on the trigger guard with a rubber mallet released it.  I heard about this trick here on GBO and it worked for me.

I had one do it years ago at the range. Didn't know that handy tip. I pulled the guard and smacked the barrel against the bench with a gun case for a buffer. Took the brass out, closed it and promptly got it stuck again. Another whack and found a river pebble that was flat. Rubbed the bur off  the barrel then went back to shooting. When I got home I polished the bottom of the chamber, where it was hanging up. I only had it happen on that one barrel. Probably had 40 or 50 barrels on it over the years.

One tool few shooters should be without, a rubber mallet.  Opens lots of things.  Just keep it out of the wife's reach.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
