Ever consider...
« on: April 26, 2012, 03:03:06 PM »
Has anyone ever considered a "Bond Arms" derringer in .45 Colt / .410 for carry?  Any thoughts?

Bond probably makes the best quality derringer type pistols on the market. They often have interchangeable barrels in various calibers. Personally, I have never considered a derringer for my carry gun. Bond would be at the top of the list if I did however. I have shot them, and they are well made.

Would make a wonderful BACK-UP , but don't think I would consider it for a primary carry gun , just too many options that are in the same size range with more shot capisities .

I have a couple 38 revolvers, a Bersa .380, a .41 Mag, and a 9 mil, I was just considering adding an option.  I have had a couple cheap derringers in the past, and while I liked the shape, and the simple operation, the calibers available were lacking (except for the .32 H&R mag which was Ok for warm weather).  The .45 colt, or the .410 buckshot load have me thinking about the Bond Arms, for when I just want a lil something extra.  At the intended use range I think it would be very useful.  ;)

  Hey keith44:
  I have owned 2 derringers in 357.
Bought the first at the Triangle Gun Shop in 1966 0r67. It was a beautiful little gun but was not very accurate at about 15 feet, traded it. The next was a Buffalo Arms and it was too heavy and also inaccurate.
I decided that a snub nose would be better all the way around, light weight and more accurate as well as more rounds on board.
Something nostalgic about the derringer, love them old western movies, but for me, thats about all they offer, IMO just not a good defence or carry choice for me no matter the caliber. YMMV

There's a reason that their called " Belly Guns " in most case's thats about how close you have to be to hit what your shooting at , belly to belly .  :o

Maybe as a back up but not as a primary.  Nothing to due with it being a Bond Arms, I just want more than two shots/chances to stop a deadly confrontation.

If it were all I had, I'd carry it. Under any other circumstances, I wouldn't consider it.
