Did my 1st trigger job
« on: March 19, 2012, 06:18:08 AM »
Attempted my first trigger job over the weekend following the FAQ instructions.
Started with what I would guess was 10 pounds on the 22lr sportster.
I skipped the polishing compound, but used the 400 & 600 paper.  Still had a heavy pull so I snipped one turn from the trigger spring.  What an improvement!  I don't know the poundage,  but it feels comfortable and maybe 3 pounds.

Im happy!

I did my second one yesterday on a new 7mm-08. It started out way over 10, ended up at 2.75.
Very nice indeed. The aren't so bad once you're used to them huh?

I'm still scared.  ::) ;D

I guess I could give it a try on one of my old SB-1 frames first.

dave29 - Don't be, if you have a modicum of decent mechanical ability, it's a piece of cake.  The main thing you have to do is to make a slave pin.  If you don't have the tools to make one out of metal, make one out of wood.  You can probably make one out of bamboo (use the chop sticks they give out in Chinese restaurants), they don't cost anything, and they last for more than a couple of trigger jobs.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

I'm very mechanically inclined. Just scared a spring will take off flying or something. I am also very impatient when it comes to files and polishing. I will need to hide my Dremel before I begin.  ;D

I was pretty nervous attempting my first trigger job. Read through all the articles in the faq's several times before I jumped in a did it. Since that first one I have done 3 others. I can take one apart, clean up the trigger and put it back together in about 30 minutes now. These things are super simple once you see whats in there.

The only spring that I had any trouble with was the hammer spring because I didnt see how it came out the first time. It was easy to figure out though.

Am I crazy to consider buying another handi just so I can do another trigger job?  ;D

I wish the instructions showed the hammer spring a little clearer.  It should say point the long end up at you and the short end towards the butt of the rifle and it rests on TOP of the stud (because you are looking down on it). Perklo's instructions say below the stud (that would be in the upright position).

I also like the idea of removing the trigger assembly out first (with the slave pin in the trigger) then, put the slave pin in the other location and remove the rest.

Dave if I can do it you can do it, but you defenitly want to make slave pins,I have some made up that I keep in a jar just for handies.
