Dan Wesson .45 Colt barrel
« on: December 27, 2011, 11:16:16 AM »
I have a DW Model 745 with heavy vented barrel in .45 Colt. It has proven to be near impossible to find replacement barrels in this caliber. I have found all lengths and finishes for the .22, .357, .41, and .44 but nothing in .45, I am trying to find one that is 8-10in or a 12-15in if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a smaller diameter barrel and have it rechambered into a 45 by someone that can do that for you? Just a thought.

Good morning
The issue with the different calibers is the threads on the barrel.  Either diameter or thread pitch is different so one caliber barrel will not attach to a different frame.
Sometimes it is far easier to get a barrel blank in the right caliber and have it turned and threaded to your frame.
If you go that route consider a faster twist.  It is far easier to stabalise 300 grainers in a 1-16 twist (or even 1-14)  than the standard 1-18.5 DW.
Have hade barrels made for my 414 Supermag & 32-20 ..

Thank you missionary5155. I would not have known about the different thread patterns. I still havent found anything for it so I guess Im gonna have to get one custom made for it. The different shrouds will still fit though right? I am planning on buying a different caliber (marked) shroud in the length I want and having it refinished.
