Encore problems
« on: January 13, 2004, 07:30:05 AM »
There's a thread going over at www.huntamerica.com that refers to an incident with the Encore frame failing.  It's sketchy on details right now, but is something to check out the next few days.  Anybody here hear anything about this?  I own one so naturally I'm concerned.

Encore frame problems?

Anything is possible - I will be following this one for sure.  I have owned one since they first came out and have never had any problems at all with them.

theres been alot of talk about loose hingepins causing flyers. From what i've read & heard you can send your gun back to thompson & they will either fix the problem or give you a new frame . or if your still hunting you can email them & they will send you an oversized pin to get you through the hunting season until you can send it back.

hope this helps

Sketchy details.  That's and understatement.  Here are the "facts" from the original posting with all the details.

I was in a sporting goods store Saturday. The owner said that he heard T/C had a lawsuit on them for an Encore that failed in the frame area. Sounds like a bunch of you know what to me but I had to ask.

This was in the in-line muzzle loader forum over there.  I'm not going to get rid of my Encore any time soon.  BTW, I shoot 7mm Mag., .405 Winchester and, real soon now, .500 S&W in the Encore, all rifle barrels.

  I'll try to post "all" the details in the future.  That's why I put up the site address so anyone can go over and read for themselves.

P.S.  I checked back on the thread, and no further info has been given.  Seems to me like it must be BS also.

I've only seen one post about a frame failure.  Seems someone had a barrel for a 460 Weatherby and the post stated that the frame blew-up???  No further details were given, and have not seen/heard any further input.  I've currently have 3 Encores and am not about to trade/sell them off yet.  Great firearms!!!

So, what does it take to file a lawsuit anymore, anyway???  Make a gun,
a couple of morons STEAL it, terrorize the East, and YOU get sued for their
actions!!!  Go out and buy plans for building an airplane, fail to follow
clearly written instructions, crash & die, and your relatives get to sue the
pants off Burt Rutan who has made some of the safest homebuilts ever
conceived to date!!!

So, I can well imagine if some nerdy idiot could get his hands on an Encore,
overload the crap out of it, cause total frame failure from 10x to much head
pressure, he too, could probably come up with some lawsuit on T/C
claiming they didn't make something idiot proof! This just goes to prove
that if ya can make something totally idiot-proof, they will just come up
with an improved idiot to defy all laws of physics!!!

I've discussed frame problems with those who should know, such as
Steve Stratton at VVCG, and read many a post and topic written by
Mike Bellm. The only problems known to either seems to be in the
area of accuracy. As most of us know, Mike claims it's a hinge-pin
problem. Steve claims it's a bridge (the piece in the frame the latch
in the end of the barrel closes under) problem in some frames. I do
know that VVCG will not make certain chambers which cause too
much stress on the frame resulting from a lot of head pressure which
causes extreme vertical stringing (such as the 223WSSM & 243WSSM),
but the cencern is that of accuracy.

On the other hand, a company might have one very bad frame out of
10,000 get out of the factory. That still doesn't mean that the other
9,999 are defective.
We need to change our politicians
like we do dirty diapers.............
for the same reason.
