Jason is correct. It was sked for production but was not deemed safe and dropped. (See Tims post below)

Near mag performance is Avaliable from wild cats and "improved" calibers. these are safe for the handi action.

Actually the 7mm RemMag, 300 Win mag and 338 Win Mag were planned on an all new Handi-Mag frame made of a better alloy with different heat treating, but distributor pre-orders didn't meet H&R's requirement for them to spend the $20k in testing costs, so they were never produced. The 7mm and 300 were listed in the 2008 catalog, but were cancelled prior to the 2008 SHOT show.  :(

Jim, Gary PMd me that he still had it a little over a year ago, you sold it back to him, right? He hasn't been on the forum since January now.  :-\

Yes, Gary e-mailed me about two years after I bought it and knowing his connection to the barrel I sold it back to him for the same price. I've also lost contact with him and hope all is well.

The 350 Jacobs is a wildcat by fanner50.

Tim

Quick - I tried the Mannlicher forearm on the 35 Whelen today and you're right it would work with some glass bedding and not look too bad but it fits perfect on my fluted bull. I've decided that what's one more project so I'm ordering a .308 survivor and I'm going to make it into my full Mannlicher project and have Wayne re-bore and chamber to .358 Win. I'm kind of a fan of the 35's as I created my own wildcat in 1984 the 350 Jacob named for my son(3yo at the time) It's a belted mag based on the 300 WM case necked to 35 and fire formed to almost no taper and a 40 deg shoulder. It moves a 225 gr Nos at 3250 fps and would not be a cartridge for the Handi action. My son has the only rifle a Win 70 with Douglas barrel that I made for him(now 24yo). I think adding another 35 to our collection will be just fine. I will just have to look at other stock options for the .218 Bee project. Maybe a nice laminated T-hole. - F50
