First blood for the .22 Sportster
« on: March 17, 2012, 01:19:29 AM »
Took her out for a walk/varmint shoot yesterday.  Decided I needed to start walking again, but didn't want to do it in town.  Went to my buddy's place, where I fish.  He's got a mess of piney squirrels, and he told me to shoot everyone I see.  Here's a coupla pics.

Got this one, about 10 minutes after I left the truck.

Peeled this little critter about 3/4 miles away, from where I shot the first one.

All in all, a great day.  Both were taken free hand, and 1 shot kills.  I also saw about 5 fox, and 2 gray squirrels.  I'll be doing this again, next week.

You got a nice walk in the woods and two squirrels to boot, don't get any better than that. :)
an unloaded wepon is equal to the same mass and volume as a rock.

Good shooting. Looks like a nice day there. What scope do you have on her?

How is the sling, is it easy to sling in different positions?

It's a 2-7x Nikon prostaff shot gun scope.  I had it setting around, not using it.  It seems perfect, on the sportster.

The sling is just for carry.  I really haven't used it for a shooting stance.

You wouldn't appen to be maddog from the campfire, would you?  Great setup.  I was gonna gt one of those 'till I FINNALY got my savage working.  P.S. Personally, i'd rather take the foxes home as pets .

Took my sportster out about a week ago and hammered a big wood chuck, right at about 30 yards. I have a simmons 3-9x32 scope on the little .22 and I put the survivor stock on it, nice to carry around. The rifle also realy likes CCI-SV ammo... I've been out a few more times but those groundhogs are real skittish and I've had no more success.

Just curious, looks like it does as well on critters as it does on paper!  Good shootin'

I've got a Marlin 39a, that I've had since 1974.  But I gotta say that the little sportster is the most fun rifle I have ever played with.  It's really making me look forward to squirrel season, next August.  I'm going to be doing a lot of hunting with that gun.
