Atheists holding Reason Rally in Washington, D.C., this weekend

EmailRichard Dawkins (AP/Manish Swarup)An organized group of atheists and some of the biggest voices from their movement will hold Reason Rally on The National Mall this weekend to raise awareness for their cause and to encourage members of Congress to respect their views.

"We need to stress to the theists that we are here," David Silverman, chairman of the rally committee and president of the American Atheists, told CNN's Belief Blog. "Atheism is growing in all 50 states. What people don't seem to understand is all we demand at American Atheists is equality."
Oxford Professor Richard Dawkins, arguably the most famous living atheist in the world, will headline the Reason Rally. Dawkins says he hopes the event will pressure members of Congress to respect the views of nonbelievers in America.
"The nonbelieving constituency has not been vocal enough, and it therefore has been politic for them to be ignored by their congressmen, by their senators," Dawkins said.
The event is advertised as the largest gathering of atheists in history, but reports of a gloomy weather forecast could significantly reduce the rally's participants. The National Parks Service says it is prepared for up to 30,000 participants, but Silverman told CNN that rain could cut that number down to 5,000.

Todd Stiefel, Founder of the Stiefel Freethought Foundation, is helping to cover about half of the event's estimated $300,000 in expenses.
And while there are plenty of critics of atheism, CNN reports the only group to have officially registered for a competing spot of land to protest the rally is theWestboro Baptist Church, a group infamous for its picketing of funerals of American servicemen and servicewomen.

they have every freedom as anyone else has. so what are they wanting? it don't make sense for them to be marching unless they're wanting "minority" status like gays.

1) They have taken prayer out of school.
2) Some places have taken God out of the pledge of allegiance.
3) It's not PC to say Merry Christmas anymore.
4) They are working on removing the 10 Commandments from our courtrooms.

WHAT MORE DO THEY WANT, THEY ALREADY HAVE THE MAJORITY VOICE IN THIS COUNTRY.

I have always found it interesting that atheists claim... "there is no God". Then they set up rallies and conventions where they rail against Him !

Now, current weather forecast calls for rain in Washington, D.C. on March 24th.
If it rains, should you still come to the Reason Rally?
Hell Yes!!
Some who were planning to attend may now be thinking maybe they should not because of rain.
Well, if you think that way, maybe you are right.
You might melt.
Maybe the enemies of freedom will wait to attack until you are warm, dry, well rested, feeling good, well fed, and comfy.
Maybe the forces of unreason will wait for some time when their attack will not interrupt anything else you might have or want to do.
This is the 100th year of the cherry blossoms in our nation’s capitol.

Richard Dawkin$ the atheists hero.
Dawkins like the late Chris Hitchens both spent their life making money by doing nothing but telling atheisst what they wanted to hear.
Hitchens own brother Peter ( who WAS an atheist until he studied deeper into atheism then became a christian) even said that if his brother would have spent more time study of atheism instead of giving speeches about it he to would have become a christian also.
And now Dawkins who is a selfconfessed genius and not even a citizen of the US is rallying his idiots in OUR capitol?
It would have been nice to see William Lane Craig show up and run Dawkins off in front of the godless crowd.

I can understand being an atheist, but why would anyone bother to be an activist for atheism? The only thing I can think of is that there must be good money in it, like PETA and Jackson/Farakan/Sharpton

Very strange indeed.. I don't play golf, but I have several friends who love the game. I am happy for them and have no plans of trying to spoil their enjoyment.. Seems like the sourpuss antis could do the same..nobody is telling them they must believe !

I still consider them comical..the idiots spend many hours fighting something they don't believe even exists !
