Phoneman7,

I'm looking for the same cal./ga. combo.  Can you tell me why you prefer one over the other?  Wonder if the replacement Model 42 will come out with the same combo.  Hope it does sooner than later, if it does at all.

Guys,

for $1900 for a 24v I would go with the Staggs Bilt for $600-$800.

If you are not in a big hurry, make a wish list on Guns America.  Works for me.  I've bought eight or nine guns from people using that site.  I got a notice this morning about two Savage combo guns.  One 22mag over a 20ga, the other a 22lr over a 410.  They were just posted yesterday.  I'm sure there are others listed there as well.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Phoneman,

The 24V was introduced AFTER Savage stupidly moved away from fully seemed barrels, so you will never find one that is fully seemed.  for what it's worth, some people have asserted that because the 24V's were built a little substantial than the rimfire-topped 24's with separated barrels, they were better regulated and fired to the same point of aim.

I can't speak to that personally having never owned or handled a 24V, but I can personally attest to the truth of difficulty with a 24C that had separated barrels (this model was also onlyh available in post-seemed barrel years -- after 1971).

The 2 Savage 24's I own today are both 24 J-DL's, one 1965 production, and the other 1969.  Both are fully seemed, and deadly accurate with either the .22lr or shotgun.

My only small complaint about 24's is of the 4 I've owned, none has fired slugs very accurately.  But given I think of them (and use them) as small game guns, my real desire of for that .22 rabbit/squirrel combination over the 20 ga turkey/pheasant/chukkar combo.

See my comments on a similar thread for more info..as there was another fella who asked specifically about the 24V in 30-30/20ga, and I gave him the long-winded response.

Best of luck!
