Do tapered barrel fit the same as the regular TC/G2 barrels?
« on: March 23, 2012, 12:00:01 PM »
I am looking at buying a new contender rifle barrel for my G2 contender and I believe it is an 18" tapered with open sights barrel.  As the opening question suggests:  Will this type of barrel arrangement fit the regular forearm piece ok?

The factory G2 forearm is for a full bull.  Also, unless this is a factory 21" bbl that's been cut down or a T/C Custom Shop bbl, the dovetail spacing might not line up correctly.  Do you know who made the bbl in question?

ATM,
The barrel says the following:  18” 5.7X28 W/SIGHTS TPR STD FINISH from the Ed's TC page.  I do have the G2 contender frame and composite stock for that combination but I am not sure the forearm will be the right kind (I don't have a lot of knowledge on the details of the TC Contenders).  I prefer to buy the correct barrel instead of having to add a new forearm.

I believe G2 carbines came with bull barrels = you will need a factory tapered fore end for that barrel.

I have 3 Gen 1 s/s frames and one s/s G2 frame + 11 carbine barrels.

I have 3 different fore end diameters that I deal with factory tapered, bull and the far less common mid size for my factory tapered 375 cal barrel.

Fore ends are relatively inexpensive so just keep the fore end attached to the barrel when not in use and you won't have to worry about mixing them up.

I have the same 5.7x28 barrel. It was made for the TCA and is standard config barrel. The G2 rifle forend works just fine.

I have just bought a 16" 45/70 barrel with a single mounting screw which I was told was 4 15/16" from the mounting lug (have not received it yet).   Which forend fits it?  I have an old style Super 16 in .223 and it takes a tapered forend with 2 screws, have not had any experience with 18" barrels.

Justin,
The barrels says:  18" 5.7x28FN TPR STD.  I believe I am ready to order it.  Have you done some reloading?  That is one of my major reasons to order one.  To be able to load it to a 22 mag level using 40-45 gr bullets and some occasional 55 grainers.
Let me know how your reloads worked out for you.
