I have had three Cherokee's and loved them.  In 4-wheel with good tires, they would go almost anywhere.  I used to skid logs out of my back yard with mine.  The full time 4-wheel drive was great.  The part time grabbed the pavement as any other 4-wheel drive would.

I only had problems with one.  It was the first year that ASB was available and was not the best system.  I was always getting dash warnings but the brakes were fine.

My wife has a 4WD Grand Cherokee and I have a 2WD cherokee, both with the 4.0 straight six engine, and we love them.  The rolling over issue is relative.  Of course they will roll over easier than a Corvette.  the higher the center of gravity, the easier it is to roll.  You simply have to adjust your driving style to what you are driving.

What model?  I drive a TJ and between my two brothers theres 6-8 others early models.  (Willys, CJ5, CJ6, CJ8, CJ7)
Likes:   Goes anywhere I've asked it to.  very user friendly mechanically; wife won't frive it (see below)

Dislikes:  not the best on fuel milage (mine's a 4.0L);  a bit noisy at highway speeds;  the wife will complain about the lack of smoooooth ride.

As for rolling over...sure but so will most other vehicles.  The short wheelbase gives the Jeep and other SUVs a high center of gravity thus making rollovers more liekly than with the standard family saedan.   All depends on how you drive them.  I've inclined A LOT and still never worried about it though.

There's hundreds of Jeep sites/groups on the net    (Jeepforum.com is a good place to start) if you have specific questions.

"Just Empty Every Pocket"...Emptied mine so little with my current one,  I'm looking at buying the new TJL next year.

If you are looking at a Wrangler, go with the 4.0 I-6 engine.  I had a 94 with the 4cyl, and never did warm up to it.  It had plenty of power in low range, but in high gears didn't have much pulling power at all.  At about 68,000 miles I decided to get rid of it before it started having more power problems, even after new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, o2 sensor, filters -  the whole 9 yards.
The intruder turns around slowly, sees both barrels, and hears a low-deep voice say "Son, the left one's iron and the right one's steel, if the left one don't get you, the right one will"

Test drive one, take it through a hair pin turn as fast as you dare, and decide for yourself on the roll overs. I can keep up with just about any pickup truck in a turn with my Cherokee.
Having said that, if I did crash, I'd probably roll before he did.

My Cherokee, is my second one. First one had no problems, this one has been in the shop under warranty quite a bit for small stuff. It's a '99.

I have a 94 Cherokee 4x4 with 160,000 on the clock and it purrs like a kitten, goes anywhere I need it to.
I think the rollover problem is only with Explorer's when the rear tire comes apart
