NY State Micro Stamping and COBIS
« on: March 30, 2012, 03:37:56 PM »
Certain NY City State Senators attempted to put in the budget bill a rider which would have required all pistols other than revolvers to have micro stamping installed on the hand gun. The technology would imprint the pistols serial number on the ejected casing for law enforcement to identify the firearm used in a crime. The "technology" is very easily defeated by altering the gun. However, the cost of such technology would have added an appreciable dollar amount to the handgun. This was another end run by the Bloomberg gang. Remington and Kimber threatened to move out of NYS if it was passed. The legislation was removed from the budget bill. In addition, funding was pulled for the failed COBIS bill which was a 10 year project which catagorized every shell casing on a newly sold firearm. After $30 million no criminal was ever convicted using this technology.
