Funny I should see this post first off--I was talking to my brother-in-law this morning about seeing one of the model 39a's at a local gun show yesterday and they were asking $725.00 for it. He bought his in 1974 brand new for $176.00.

That's a Williams rear sight.

had one very accurate , extractor broke on mine after I don't know how many shots , maybe a 1000 or more. Other than that a nice rifle. `I mention it because its a cheap made part. The gunsmith who fixed mine made one out of a more solid one for another rifle .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I learned to shoot a rifle with mine. Hung a qt can in a pine tree stepped off 25 steps and shot until I could hit every time standing. Then at 50 steps . Stopped at 125 steps , maybe 100 yards . I was a kid . OK at 125 I used a trash bbl with a flat wooden top for a rest. I burnned up most of a brick that week .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

i had one like that when i was a kid. no tellin how many rounds it had thru it before i traded it in on a 81 shovel.it never failed me. i now have one i purchased at a pawn shop with the fishbelly front stock. its about a 1950 sumpin model.i dont think ill ever be without a model 39 again.they are just too good of a rimfire to not have in your collection.
