Search function drove me nuts.  Anybody played with this powder for plinking loads?  I was gonna try some and wondered if anyone else has.  Goat

Goat,

IIRC, Dinny posted on a good load with TB and a 240 grain Lead boreriding wadcutter.   I think his post was from last summer.

I've got some 158 wadcutters, also some cast GC 170 and 190 LFN types.  Always a good excuse to do some more shooting.  My rifle really likes the 190's with A1680, can't wait for a chance to bust a deer or a pig.  Goat

I load 148 gr. HBWC's over ~3 gr. Trailboss for use indoors. Accurate, at least to 50' and very low report. Not sure how accurate these loads are beyond 50'. That's my maximum range inside my shop. Great for revolver or rifle.

You dont define what a 'plinking load' is to you. For me its accurate to 50yds. or so and cast bullets. I loaded some TB in my 357 Mag revolver with the 70% of capacity formula and it was a cream puff. I liked 80% better. I did use some 100% (to bullet base) and it was a bit 'past' a plinking load for me, but very civilized. In the rifle platform I almost think I'd start with 80% and work up to my happy place.

That's correct. I use a 240gr borerider similar to the 230gr Thunderhead offered by Penn bullets with 4.0gr of TB powder. I routinely get 5/8" groups at 50yds with that load, if not better. Velocity is around 800fps and very quiet from a 22" bbl.

This is on my "todo" list as well... long heavy bullets at sub sonic vel.. can pack quite a wallop! Accuracy looks very good as well!

Just a quick follow-up.  Had time today to try some behind a 158gr SWC.  Playing at 25yds, 5.0gr got me just over an inch slightly below POA, 5.5gr gave me 11/16" vertical about 2" left of POA.  Nothing but a loud pop.  This is gonna be fun, the potential is there for a very accurate practice load.  Goat
