Loose "tophat" question
« on: April 08, 2012, 02:51:46 AM »
On a contender barrel I have, the tophat that fits in the dovetail in the barrel is loose. This is a single screw barrel by the way. This causes the forend to sometimes be closer to one side of the barrel than the other unless I am careful. Is there any way to stop this loosesness? Thanks for any suggestions.

Easy fix... simply stake it with a center punch (either the standoff itself or the barrel under it).   Will not be visible, won't hurt anything and unless a heavy recoiling barrel will not shoot loose again (yet still be drift moveable for proper forend alignment).   The key is don't overdue it, less is better as you can always add "more" if needed.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
