Yep. I get it occasionally with a progressive press. I'm using primer tubes. Irritating, but not too frequent.

.........First make sure the primers are all in the correct direction when you load your primer feed tube......take the priming arm off the press and clean the punch, cup and spring with a good solvent and dry them after a good scrubbing to make sure they haven't gotten any shavings embedded into their surface.......check your shellholder and clean it also...polish the bottom of the center hole to make sure there aren't any burrs on the shell holder and check to make sure the sliding sleeve on the primer arm isn't binding on the hole in the shell holder........same for the slot in the ram...clean and make sure it lets the primer arm in and out of the slot smoothly.....and if you have a primer/tube feed system check that the retaining plunger is clean and smooth and that the retaining block-feed is aligned with the priming arm-pickup and the primer drops into the priming arm sleeve correctly and smoothly.........last..LOOK at the primer when it feeds and stop before you seat a backward primer...if you hand feed each primer without a primer feed/tube then just look more....make sure you fit the primer feed tube all the way into the feed retainer and that the tube is straight in line with the drilled retainer hole......that is all I can think of that I have seen cause the problem and operator error in loading the tube and rough operation of the priming ram/arm seems to be the most common cause......hth..good luck and good shooting-loading!!

I have had this happen with my Lee primeing tool. It only does this with Federal primers. Remington and CCI work great.

missed_shot:  that happens to me once in a great while, whenever I use the priming mechanism on either my single stage RockCrusher or on my Dillon 550.  It sometimes happens if you are seating small primers using a large primer cup and the primer isn't centered - the lip of the cup gets caught by the base of the shell holder and flips the primer upside down.  I'm sure glad I check all my primed cases before charging them.

I avoid this problem using a manual Lee priming tool - that was I know all my cases are properly primed.....  HTH.  Mikey.

Two words that some feel don't belong in the same sentence: Federal primers and Lee priming tool (Auto loader?). According to the instructions Federal primers are never to be used in this tool. Can't say I've ever experienced any problems with the combination.

I bought a RCBS  Hand Priming Tool. It comes with a flip tray. I use it so much & it works so well, that I've taken the priming stuff off my old Rockchucker.

Also check for burrs on the mouth of the spring loaded cup on the primer arm and slow down.  Pull the case down on the primer gently then you can feel anything amiss.  That will help more than you might imagine.

Years ago I threw away all the priming junk connected to my reloading presses.  I think it's dangerous.  The only thing I use nowdays is the RC hand primer.  Changing out the shell holders is a pain, but it works great and you can eyeball every primer.
