Big6x6 - A&H Question
« on: February 06, 2004, 05:25:32 PM »
This request is another post that you may see also but I would like to ask you for some help and information.

Do you have any ballistic numbers for a 300 grain 45 cal. bullet (Saboted) 100 grains of T7 out of a Austin & Halleck. The other bullet I was looking at was a 260gr 45 cal. Nosler Partician. I can not believe how well the Noslers group. I know they are built for hunting - but I did not think they would preform anything close to a target round.

I normally shoot a lot of 44 cal in same weights as above exect the Nosler is 250 instead of 260. I prefer the 44's because of the higher BC. Is this a valid reason or because of the speed and distance of BP is the BC a washout?

Thanks for the help and all the information you put on this forum...

Of COURSE I have the numbers..
PR Extreme 253 300gr 100gr ffg 777 1691fps
PR Extreme 253 300gr 110gr ffg 777 1767fps
PR Extreme 253 300gr 100gr Pyrodex Select  1417fps

Hornady SST 300gr 100gr ffg 777 1741fps
Hornady SST 300gr 110gr ffg 777 1819fps

BCs(actual)
Extreme 253 300gr  0.234
Hornady SST 300gr 0.226
W-W Platinum Tip 260gr .183 (Should be VERY close to what the Nosler 260gr PG is.  I WILL have the PG 260gr soon)

Certainly NOT a washout.  I always try to use the bullet with the best bc, all things being equal(accuracy and bullet construction).  A better bc gives more energy downrange, less wind drift, and better trajectory with no other changes.

Is this the info your were looking for?

Absolutely - thank you very much...

One of my goals when I retire again is to get myself a chrono...  I keep leaving hints to my wife that I need one - but, everytime I leave a book open to the spot I find the book back in my gun cabinet and I can her her saying "you have enough toys...."  Which by the way, would be your recommendation for chrono considering the ameture that I am.

The numbers you have provided me will allow me to plug them into a computer program I have and it will plot all the down range information and print out a pretty colored graph with side beside comparisons.  Really gives me a picture of what is happening.

Again, thanks for the info...
