I cannot absolutely gurantee you it isn't factory but I'd nearly bet the farm on it not being. I've never seen or even heard of one being cut like that from the factory on any S&W gun. The ONLY way I've seen from them is the D&T holes in top strap.

It's a darn neat job and if ya like the scope that far out (I don't) then that's sure a nice way to do it. Whoever did the work is darn good.

Yes, it is a factory job. SW did a run of them in 1990. The factory supplied rings were Milletts.
I have one, bought new in Jan of 1991. At the time I was an FFL holder, it came directly from a whoesale house, there was never a chance for anyone to mess with it. I've only ever seen one other.

Can't find a pic of mine.....I'll take a few.

Interesting, that's definitely a new one on me but S&W did a lot of one offs. It might have been some big distributor special. Lew Horton used to do a bunch of such.
