Marlin 336 gunsmith question
« on: July 17, 2012, 01:43:06 AM »
I have a 336 with the 2/3 length mag tube (Glenfield version from the late '60s) I bought a barrel for an unrelated project and it came with a full length mag tube.  That got me thinking.  I sure would like a full length mag on my rifle.  I imagine I'll need a longer spring. My question is: are there any other internal differences I'm not taking into account?  Aside from re mounting the forward mag tube support and getting a new spring, are there any other issues I may want to consider before I take this gun apart and start scratching my head?

  Thanks.

Google 'Marlin Owners Forum' and check the 'DIY gunsmithing' section.  They have lots of stuff on 336 mods.
Think as if you LIFE depends on it... IT does..!  Be Well...

Instead of tearing that one down, look around for a 30A, that is what you are going to make.  The 30A, ( lomg mag tube), was made in much larger numbers than the 30, (short mag tube).  Could sell the 30 and have enough to buy a nice 30A.  DP

I hadn't thought the gun was particularly desirable.  I'll keep my eyes open and see what turns up before I do anything rash.
