The 224-32 FA at 100 Yards
« on: April 06, 2012, 02:57:21 PM »
I've been doing a bit of experimenting lately trying to come up with a good 100 yard load for the 224-32 FA.  I think I've finally found one that looks pretty good:

I’m using 14.0 grains of Accurate 1680 behind a 36 grain Barnes “Varmint Grenade”.  The above group is is 1.46 inches, and none of the others I shot using this load were over 2.5 inches, so it seems pretty consistent.

I guess I don’t consider this too bad for a 5.5 inch revolver at 100 yards, but I don’t know what other guys with 224-32 revolvers are getting in the way of group size.  Any other 224-32 shooters out there?

Good post.  I don't have one, but I'm interested in your report. How did you shoot the groups, off a bench I presume?

I was shooting off a solid concrete bench using a Wichita Arms cast iron rest with a pistol attachment:

It's a pretty solid setup, and I was able to get a good slow and even press on the trigger without disturbing the sight picture.
