Hi-vis xcoil recoil pad
« on: April 22, 2012, 02:09:00 PM »
I'm refinishing a PW stock that I got from the classifieds here a few years ago. Last night I went to Gander mountain to see if they had a grind to fit pad that I could use. I ended up with a Hivis Xcoil pad in size large that was on the clearance rack for $19.99. I think a medium would have been a better fit because the large JUST fit without hitting the "do not grind" line. I went to borrow my brother's belt sander this afternoon but he wasn't home, so I ended up grinding the pad to fit with a flap wheel on my 4.5" angle grinder. It worked real well and was quicker than the last couple I did on the belt sander. I'll post some pics when It's all back together.

If you don't mind, post a picture of the flap wheel and some info on how you used it.
Thanks, ear

Well my first coat of linseed oil dried enough that I could put the pad on and get a picture.

Here's the flap wheel on my grinder. I just held and moved the stock in my left hand and ran the grinder with my right.
