I agree we need to have compassion for the girl who cannot attend Dartmouth. She has done everything her teachers asked, she has gotten good grades, she was raised here in the U.S. by hard working parents, for Pete's sake.
I'm NOT referring to the Columbian, the girl I'm referring to is the American student she is displacing. What about that girls rights as a U. S. citizen? Not only has she done it right, her parents have done it right, her grand parents did it right, and so did her great grand parents. Several generations of tax paying, war fighting, community supporting, charity supporting, LEGAL American citizens.
There is no doubt a line a Dartmouth College for Foreign exchange students. That is the line she rightfully should be standing in. That line has scholarship money, it has access to all the same campus facilities.
Upon graduating the young lady will have a valuable education, a marketable skill set. No doubt The U.S. will be looking for folks like her. Apply for that Visa then. Do what must be done to become a citizen. All the tests should be pretty easy for a Valedictorian at a U.S. high school. Hell, for that matter a U.S. high school Valedictorian ought to be able to get into just about any college in any country... Columbia for example.
IT'S NOT FAIR.
Everyone else is getting free stuff. Nobody else I know has to stand in this line . My friends don't have to take out the trash, my friends don't have to wash dishes, my friends don't have to get a job, my friends don't have to pay for the car insurance, my friends don't have to pick up after their dog, I HATE YOU, YOU ARE SO UNFAIR.
The world is not always fair, there are rules for reasons, after following the rules you may well understand and respect those reasons.
Mike Tyson would make an excellent NBA forward if he could make up his own rules to play by.
