Has anyone else had problems with POF?
« on: July 01, 2012, 04:31:29 AM »
I happened to wonder into my favorite gun shop back in October (almost 9 months ago) and asked about ordering a 308 POF NP3 upper.  I had done my research, so I KNEW what the upper was worth.  A rookie at the counter quoted me a price that was almost $400 less.  So, of course, I jumped on it!

Come to find out, he mistakenly quoted me HIS price.  The owner of the shop called me the next morning and told me about the mistake.  I fully expected to pay an additional $400 since it was still a fair price, and that gun shop had always treated me right.  It felt a little like stealing.  HOWEVER, the owner told me since I already place the order and they charged my credit card, he would honor it.  He knew who I was, knew I use them almost exclusively, knew he had made money on me in the past, and admitted he was only going to lose the cost of shipping in the deal.

6 months later (April), I start calling the dealer to find out what's going on with my upper.  I was told it would be up to 90 days because POF usually has a backlog of orders.  The dealer offered to cancel, but I didn't want to since it was such a smoking deal.  He suggested I call POF directly to find out exactly what was going on.  He said he could do it, but didn't care if I stepped in so I could track it as often as I wanted.

Almost 9 months later (30 June) and a dozen phone calls to POF.....and I'm still waiting.

In 3 months, POF has told me:
- we are waiting on the rails to be finished
- your barrel is being heat treated as we speak
- your rails are not finished yet
- your upper is complete, just waiting for assembly
- we just got a new batch of barrels in, and your is being heat treated
- etc., etc., etc.

POF also told me they are just now filling individual orders from MARCH and mine will be ready when it's ready.  If it weren't such a good deal, and I NEEDED the upper ASAP, I would have canceled and purchased a different upper.

Is this common practice for POF??

yes. Ex 49'er, that's the company.

The "$400 mark up" is the difference between what I could find anywhere else and the price they sold it at.  I could have settled for a "bottom of the barrel" DPMS upper for close to $700, but chose POF for several reasons.  I guess the main reason was the "look at all the money I saved" excuse my wife always gives me.
