Good bullet for 30-30 PP...?
« on: April 18, 2012, 02:27:40 PM »
Got lots of brass and Jword bullets.  Wondering about PP now.  And, does anyone sell them already cast?

Thanks.

Naw, that wouldn't be any fun! The whole point is to make them yourself. That way when you see better accuracy and velocity, as well as better downrange effect than you can possibly hope to achieve with jacketed bullets you can be happy that you did it all on your own.

Not to mention PP bullets need to be pretty much individually fit to the rifle they are going to be used in. That said, I am lately having great results with the RCBS 150gr. cowboy bullet, sized to .303" and patched back to .309" in my 30-30 Marlin microgroove barrel. Velocities 150 fps better than is possible with jacketed at sane pressures and around 3 inch groups at 200M with the factory barrel sights. Cast from air cooled wheelweight metal with 25% pure lead added they expand nicely when they hit things.

I've been using 3031, but 748 works even better.
