3006 in a 15" barrel?

Long story short I've got 15" barrel in 3006, it's nib (was sold as a 308 ).  I haven"t opened the pack yet, got a good deal on it.  I've got a 708  in the same length, how do the two compare, recoil, range?  I've got dies for both, just might want to trade for a rifle barrel or another cal.  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance...  lost

Can you say MUZZLE BLAST.  I have not shot a 15" barrel pistol in 06 but have shot a rifle with a 20" barrel and in bright sunlight you could see a fire ball the size of a beach ball. The Hodgdon annual manual list load data for the 06 in a 15" barrel pistol. With 150 gr bullets you can average 2650 to 2700 fps With H4350 and H4895 & H380. I have used the 125 Nosler ballistic tip in my 14" contender 30-30AI at 2670 fps and in rifles up to 3000 fps and it is one deer killing bullet. It would help hold down recoil in your 06 pistol and the Hodgdon manual says that you can get 2800 to 2900 fps with H4895, Varget and H335.

Sure is a lot of powder to burn in a 15" tube.  Would be an impressive fireball about dusk

i have a 17" 308 shoot's good i would think that the /06 would be about
the same . i do reload and use a lot of cast boolits so i don't push it to
to the max. shoot it see if you like it i think i saw that someone makes
a light load if you need it

I have a 15" .30/06 barrel for my TC Pistol.  Its a lot to hold onto with standard loads, not to mention a large fireball after dark.  That  said it would really put a smack down on a deer if needed.  Never chrono'd it but accuracy is good and it would still do the job.

I have one with a brake that I can bypass. Even with the brake off it is not bad at all. I shoot a mild load in mine with 150 gr bullets. I would much rather shoot it than a stout 44. The 3006 kick is different, rather than the muzzle flipping up it is more of a straight back push. I have the Pachy decelarator grip so that does help. Hoping to make meat with it this fall.

If I had a 7mm-08 Remington and a 30-06 Springfield 15" T/C Encore barrels, I can tell you the 7mm-08 Remington would be the only one seeing the light of day. I am sure others enjoy their 30-06 Springfield pistol barrels, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
 
I should have never sold my 15" in 7mm-08 Remington barrel for my T/C Encore. I really like the 308 Winchester parent case in a 15" barrel. I recently bought a NIB 338 Federal Pro Hunter stainless steel barrel with NIB RCBS 338 Federal full length die set. I feel I have the best cartridge for the 15" barrel, bullets from 180 to 225 grains is a force to be reckoned with.
