What if anything do you guys do with your drags and extra chain links to ensure that they are odor free.

Thanks!

When I boil and dye traps, I hook about six traps together along with chains and drags on to a wire and lower them all into the dye solution.  Then I have a tool to hook the wire and pull them out.  Ace

I definitely boil, dye and wax my traps.  Trappers who use speed dip in my locality get a lot of set avoidance by both red fox and coyote.  I believe the reason this topic is so controversial is that how well speed dip performs on canines depends upon the humidity level of ones locality along with the type of soil.  Dry, arid places seem to have little problem with set avoidance while here in Upper michigan where the humidity is always high and the soil moist.  Other areas vary somewhere in between.  I have a philosophy that I use and have taught students over the years, "it is better to be safe and thorough than sorry."  Its the little details that add up to a total harvest if one wants to be the most productive they can be on the trapline.  Ace

I boil, dye and wax the whole rig. Might be a waste of wax but they store well.
Trappenjoe- A #3 or 4 double longspring cuts through the snow better than any coil that I've found yet but I haven't tried them all. Bedding and weight scare people off as does the price.

I USED TO BOIL AND WAX , THOUGHT I'D TRY THE DIP AS OF NOW I CAN'T TELL MUCH DIFFERENCE. NOW FOR SOME REASON AFTER A CATCH
I DO HAVE A WAIT I DON'T NOW IF IT'S ABSORBED THE BLOOD SMELL
BUT OVER ALL I'VE BEEN HAPPY .  NOW THAT WE HAVE SNOW , I DON'T KNOW HOW GOOD DIP WILL PROTECT AGAINST USING SALT FOR ANTIFREEZE. I THINK IT WILL DETERMAN IF I USE IT AGAIN

I make a dip out of red oil base paint and mineral sprits...... I dip the drag after I make them.....

They hold the paint pretty well..... I have never had to re dip any.....

The red color makes them easier to see once pulled out of the set.....
Good Luck and God Bless you and yours,

Interesting BB and easy to take care of.   I have spray painted some of my conibears with a dull red primer   over 15 yrs ago and they are still  good.  Doesnt affect  the mink, rats , bvr and otter either as they  never complain when i take them out of the conibear  !
