.243 and IMR 4895
« on: January 31, 2004, 01:48:18 PM »
I decided to get a centerfire barrel for my Encore and settled on a 26" stainless heavy barrel in .243 Rem. Do any of you use Imr 4895 in your .243's? I use it for my 30-06 and 22-250 and have plenty on hand. I was going to try some Sierra 80 grain Blitz bullets, they ought to put the hurt on a coyote! Any info or experience will be appreciated. TIA. Mike

I have never tried IMR 4895 in .243. Have had very good luck using IMR 4350 and Hodgon H380 W/70 gr. Sierra HPBT match bullet.

Yes I use it in my 243 and it works good. 4895 is a good powder. I can't remember the charge but I used it behind the 90gr HP. I also use the H380 and IMR 4064 that will_c mentioned. Good luck....

LOAD SOME UP AND GIVE IT A TRY! Every gun is different. Kind of fast powder for 243, but with the lighter bullets it should be fine.

Thanks guys. I'll try my 4895 and if I'm not happy I'll try your suggestions. Mike 8)

IMR 4895 was very accurate in my Savage Striker 243 with Starke 80 g bullets It was one of the few powders that did not have a blinding muzzle flash in the short 15 inch barrel.
