The rifle hasn"t been used much and it is the only thing I can afford now. Can the .243 get the job done. What bullet to use ? All I hunt is whitetails in both thick and farmland country. I'm looking for real  world experience, not theory. Thanks !

I've killed a bunch of whitetails with the 243 shooting federal premium 100gr Gamekings.  Never had any problem and killed as well as any of the bigger rifles I have used.   The 243 with any reasonable 85-100gr bullet is plenty for whitetails.  I have one that I plan on letting my kids take a crack at a moose with.   85gr TSX ought to get in there far enough to get the job done.

Ive killed a few deer with the 243 and a truck load with its twin the 6mm rem. Allways got the job done for me as long as i didnt stretch it past 300 yards.

I shot 2 does in Oklahoma with my Remington Model 7 243 last fall. !st at 100 yards, dropped in her tracks, and a few minutes later, a 2nd doe at 200+, which ran 20 yards before piling up. Have a Remington 788 6mm Remington  that has done the same. 71 almost and recoil  getting to be a little much, so I like the 243 and 6mm  very much......

I seldom recommend any 24 cal for deer but, I have shot several deer with the 243 and not a hitch. My ex used a 6mm rem and it did just fine. For hunting I wuld suggest the 100 gr bullets but a lot of guys like the 87/90 gr bullets.

My longest shot with my 243 was nearly 300yds. I've shot them as close as 20yds. I use 100 gr bullets 95% of the time. The other 5% has been with 87gr bullets. Been using the same rifle since the early 80s and it's gonna stay with me until I croak.
Factory rounds from Rem, Win or Fed will do ya fine as long as your rifle likes then.

Any 6mm will do the job on deer just fine.  1 stop shots at 200 and 300 yards are the norm where we hunt.  Great deal on the 700 btw.  There are lots of nice upgrades available as you get the funds down the road ;)

I've used the 243 extensively. The 100 grain Corelocks from Remington are great deer bullets but mostly I loadd 95-100 Partitions (Noslers). They shouldn't be used on running deer as penetration won't guarantee exits. It's why I've switched to larger calibers for general use.. I've also loaded the 87 grain Hornaday as a general load..it's a little hard for coyotes and a bit soft for deer but works well for.. Mainly because of it's accuracy. Matter of fact it's my test bullet for any 243 I might buy..loaded with IMR4320 and CCI 200 primers. Just remember no raking shots.

Guys do they still make the Remington ADL ? looked through the 2012 catalogue and couldn't find one. Is there something wrong with the ADL ? Going shooting in about an hour and I will find out if this used gun shoots !

Nothing wrong with Remington ADL's, my father in-law has one in 22-250 Remington. I know Wal-mart still sells them where I live.

I didn't like the blind magazine, so I bought new Remington bottom magazine floor plate/trigger guard and new Remington SPS stock off auction sites. My father in-law loved the conversion and never had a problem of the floor plate coming open claimed by others.

I only use 95 - 100 grain Nosler Partitions for deer, and bullets down too 70 grains for varmints. My 243 Winchester didn't like any bullet less then 70 grains, but yours might be different. My favorite powder is IMR-4350, but I have used IMR-3031, and IMR-4320 with equal success.

Which Redfield scope model?

i had to make a 450 yd follow up shot with a 100 gr bullet, drt on my 10 pt. whitetail. my first shot was at 150 yrds but i made an awful shot. he stopped running at 450 and looked back just long enuff to get a shot off. i was using blue box federal factory ammo.

This used gun is a real shooter. I can shoot quarters with it at 100 yds and the scope is just clear as a bell even at 2x7  I can count antlers at 200 yds. Looks like I'm set for my Kentuckey hunt in November. Anyone heard of ccw outfitters in Marion Ky. Thanks for all your imput.
