Anybody have a Contender barrel change answer for me?
« on: May 12, 2012, 02:22:21 PM »
Hey guys,

Here's the deal.....I have a Savage Mk11 BSEV stainless fluted .22 LR barrel that has had 7500 rounds through it. (still shoots awesome)....the barrel has sentimental value.

My son is needing/wanting a .22 LR for his T/C Contender I was wondering if anyone has had a underlug welded to a barrel like this and anybody know who would take on such a project?

The barrel is 21" long and is a .801" straight tube with no taper also is 416R stainless steel.

Any recomendations?
Thx guys.

You could do a barrel stub. Pretty expensive though. I don't know of anyone who will weld a lug and do the extractor work.

A barrel stub is a consideration.

Though I was hoping for a underlug.

Thanks

If I wanted to do what you propose, I would contact SSK Industries or Match Grade Machine.  I'm sure they would be capable of doing what you propose though I'm doubtful it would be worth it from a cost standpoint.

The more I research I think the barrel stub might be the way to go, I found a place (eagle view arms) which sells stubs for $95, just need to get someone to do some lathe work and we might be on to something.

Yes I know it might not be cost effective but this barrel was given to me by someone very special and rather than just let it sit there I would like to put it to use for my son to use in squirrel season this year.

It would be the icing on the cake for him. (he's 9 yrs old)
