22/45 scope mount
« on: January 26, 2004, 03:43:33 AM »
Howdy all,
I have a 22/45 I'm looking to mount a scope on and would like input on mounts. My 22/45 has the 5.5 bull barrel that is not drilled or taped for a mount, but I wouldn't be opposed to drilling and tapping.

Thanks,
Woofert

I just found a cheap rail, machined the radius to fit and taped the top of the reciever to mount it. I never liked any of the no-gunsmithing mounts I saw.   KN

I have a MKII 5.5" that I had drilled and tapped for the Ruger base that comes on the Competition Model. Have a set of 1" rings and 30mm rings for both scope and dot sight. Also used to own a 22/45 and did the same with it.

Easy to remove the optics with the Ruger system - the rings/optics come off as a single unit if you want to go back to open sights. Then you can remount the optical assembly and still be at or very close to your zero point.

Woofert, I have a MarkII slabside competition and I just mounted a 1"millet red-dot with the ruger mounts that came with my slabside.  You will be amazed how accurate theses little babies are.  If I were you I would go with a ruger base and have my pistol drilled and tapped. Then you can use the 1" rings for a red-dot or a scope.  Millet and ultra-dot offer 1" red-dots.  I too did not care for the look of the clip-on type mounts.  The set-up I have looks natural to the pistol and carrys really well.
Kisatchie,
