MODESTO, Calif. (KCRA) - A Modesto man was arrested after he punched a 69-year-old woman who was sitting in her wheelchair waiting at a bus stop Tuesday, police said.
The woman was waiting for a Modesto Area Express Bus in the 1600 block of Coffee Road about 11:20 a.m. when she was approached by Nicholas Velasquez, 29, and punched in the face.
Velasquez then walked away saying, "I hate white people," police said. The woman's glasses were broken as a result of the assault, investigators said. She also sustained a black eye and a minor laceration on her face.
The woman was treated at the scene and requested to continue on her way.
Police said Velasquez was found on Scenic Road, near Coffee Road. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on one count of elder abuse and one count of hate crime.
