Short barrels
« on: May 17, 2012, 04:12:00 AM »
Why are there no short TC barrels, as in 3" or 4"?
I saw a pic of an Encore 45/70 pistol that had a very short barrel on it and a custom grip........just can't find the pic again.

4" is about as short as you can go without moving the forend dovetail mount.

Sweet!
 Is it yours?
Can you actually hit anything with it?

Did somebody actually ask if a 4" 45-70 would have any muzzle flash?  Probably at least 10'-15' of it.    ;)

Most of the shorties I've seen have been 4"-6" Contenders chambered for standard "handgun" cartridges.

As a huge fan for decades of the biggest, meanest, baddest I could shoot safely on my Contenders, the 10" 416 Rigby barrel I had for my Encores was short enough for that cartridge.   While even full house loads didn't tear me up to shoot to bad, the muzzle blast was almost unbearable.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Max Trail Boss loads with 300 gr bullets are easy to shoot and plenty accurate for me shooting iron sights.  It's a real hoot to shoot.  Mike
