almost fell for a cheap junk Rossi AGAIN
« on: May 15, 2012, 02:24:56 PM »
I almost bought a Rossi 357 today, but I have had 4 and they were all dysfunctional. One was replaced (number 5) and it did work, although I am afraid to shoot it too much. the cylinders are garbage. The gunsmith said it is well known among the gunsmith community that Taurus/Rossi are not good quality and they will not work on them, but send them back to the factory. Taurus upgraded the warranty but did not upgrade the quality. The gunsmith said he would pay the extra money for the value and get a Smith & Wesson. I agreed with him and got a refund. Too bad Taurus Rossi has such beautiful and ergonomic guns that are junk.   P.S. I have several Rossi/
Puma lever action rifles and are very satisfied with them.

I think Rossi/Taurus went through some times where quality was up and down over the years,  might depend some on that.  I notice other gun companies went through similar ups and downs in quality over some years.  I don't have hardly any experience with Rossi/Taurus revolvers, only two Rossi's, one was made in the 80's 3" j frame size, it worked so well a good friend wanted it, and has it now.  I have an old 44 spl model 720 that I have no complaints on, replaced the front sight with a carbon steel blade cause didn't like the plastic one on there, but that is a tight revolver and shoots nice.  Only one Taurus...old beat up one with a lanyard ring, it works and shoots straight is about all I can say about it.  I think before buying them you need to inspect them a lot and get a decent price on them after inspection.  I would not buy one without being able to really check it out close.  If the Taurus ever breaks I may destroy it, I won't spend much money on it, but if the Rossi 720 breaks I'll get it fixed, it's a pretty decent 5 shot 44 spl.
