Remington 7400 recoil pad
« on: October 27, 2010, 06:14:47 PM »
Does anyone make one that fits or is it going to be a grind to fit affair? Already have a slip on pad and want something permanent.

with a soft recoil pad you might not back the rifle up tight enough against your shoulder i'd leave the hard butplate as is. backing up means holding the rifle tight to your shoulder, with the give of a soft pad the gun may not cycle correctly, this is a common problem, I see people bring them in all the time for "gun will not cycle rounds" 9 times out of 10 its because of the super soft R3 recoil pad not allowing the shooter to properly back up his rifle

to be totally honest with you i would leave your hard but pad as is, with the pad that has give it it your action will not work correctly if you don't hole your rifle tight enough to your shoulder

Now why do you want to screw with this guy ? That makes no sence at all !

Try a BDL fitted pad on your 7400 . The Plastic plates are interchangable between them , or at least they were . Grinding a pad isn't rocket surgery , if you have access to a belt or disc sander , and a little ability to work with your hands ! Those slip on pads aren't the answer . They make the LOP too long 95% of the time .

I would love to know what caliber he's shooting that requires a pad? I shoot my 7400 '06  with the hard pad and it doesn't bother me one bit! :o   This is why I went with Rem 7400 got tired of get kicked to death with my Savage 110 '06!  Shooting my 7400 is a dream compared to that Savage even with heavy 180 gr loads.

Holy thread revival batman!

The gun belongs to my elderly father who wanted to spend some extended range sessions shooting along with his sons, yet the ole' 06 was beginning to pain his arthritic shoulder.
He ended up putting one of those slip on affairs on, and no it doesn't cause malfunctions neither off the bench or in the field.
