Wood stock, with checkering, few dents in stock with excpetion it has some chipping around action. They want 400.00 for it. What is it really worth and what type of warranty work will Browning perform on second hand rifles?

I don't have one but no one is responding so I'll give it a shot. Check Guns america and gun broker. These sights will give you an idea of the value. Remember the gun broker prices are wishfull thinking. Go by the bid prices and these may be fake. $400 for a rifle these days sounds good. I would have some concerns about the chiping around the action. I think that the Browning has a recoil buffer that from time to time needs replacing. If it needs replacing I don't think it is difficult providing that there is no other recoil damage.

That sounds like a fair price for a BAR in 30-06, providing the rest is up to snuff. Did you buy it?

No not yet. I had to wait for some money to come in. I am going back today at lunch time to see if it is still there and see if I can get it down even further. Boyds sells a replacement buttstock for them and maybe I can use that as a bargaining point. It would be yet another project gun for me, but it is a Browning and if it is in working order would make a great legacy rifle since it should last a lifetime with the proper care. Thats my thinking anyway.

I've had 3 of the first gen. BAR rifles. The first and last would shoot well with any handload I put in it. The second one couldn't empty a magazine without a stoppage.
When I bought the one I have now I asked the salesperson to guarantee that it would function and he assured me it would. It does. Someone had hacksawed the barrel off to about 20 inches & crowned it with a mill bastard file. It was hideous. I recrowned it and it shoots 1-2" at 100 yards. My grandson shot an elk with it three years ago.

Does anyone remember the scene from "Quigley Down Under" showing the aborigines lined up on the skyline as far as you could see? That needs to be US!
