Anyone with any experience with 338 X 74?

Does anyone here have any experience with 338 X 74 wildcat?  It looks like a great round for a single shot rifle.

What about the 9.3x74R don't you like?   it is a great round.
Try to look unimportant.   Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Only Handi so far is a 375 JDJ.

I have the .338x74R reamer, (Keith) but i never chambered one up.  I instead came up with a some what bigger capacity case, and did make up a combo bbl. chambered for it,

You can see it in the pict, second from the right, next to a 30-06.   Actually, left to right is, 416, 375, 338 and 30-06.

I also made up a 9.3x74R imp...  You can see it here next to a factory 9.3x74R,

These would be perfect for a Ruger number one!

Anyway, i did all of this long ago, and i no longer do any work like this, but i thought you may be interested in seeing them.

Hey all,

New to the site.   I'm building a .338x74 Imp aka .338 White Express.  It is on a TC Encore.  Looking at your pic's looks close to what Im building.  Do you all have any load data?  I'v seen the "Keith" Data and am thinking of using that and working it up a little.  I'm planing on using 200/210's and 225's.  Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Blackelk

What is the 416 like?  That looks like it would be a nice one.

I built a handi rifle barrel on a shortened 340 Weatherby wildcat on a 45-70 case and it is remarkably flat shooting.  I think your wildcat should do what a 338 Win mag does with less pressure in a non belted smaller case head.
Sounds like a great round for a single shot rifle to be chambered in.  If you have the ability to do your own barrel work,  Green Mountain has a unturned blank that would make a great 338 x 74 R barrel at a great price . $ 50.00  and 338 bullets have a very good BC and SD and shoot just about as flat as 30 cals. Thats a lot to like !     ;)
Current handi family, 24 ga./ 58 cal ,50-70,  45 smokeless MZ, 44 belted bodeen, 44 mag,.375 H&R (wildcat),375 Win.,357 max, .340 MF ( wildcat ), 8 mm Lebel, 8x57, .303 British, 270 x 57 R,(wildcat) 256 Win Mag, 2 x 243 Win,2 x 223 Rem. 7-30 Waters &20ga.,
